Eric J. SiglerEric J. Sigler, MD, is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. Dr. Sigler grew up on Long Island and graduated from State University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Science in biology. He subsequently attended the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and completed his residency in ophthalmology at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale New-Haven Hospital, where he also served as Chief Resident. He completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at the Charles Retina Institute and Hamilton Eye Institute at the University of Tennessee, Memphis, where he served as clinical instructor in vitreoretinal surgery.

Dr. Sigler has received several distinguished awards and honors including the Physician Recognition Award from the American Medical Association and the Resident Research Award from the Yale Eye Center, and is an Eagle Scout. Dr. Sigler is a member of numerous professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Dr. Sigler has conducted numerous clinical studies involving the treatment and diagnosis of diseases of the retina and vitreous. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and authored several book chapters including original illustrations and scientific discoveries. He continues to lecture at national meetings regarding the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases. Dr. Sigler founded the Vitreoretinal Research Group, which is a global consortium of retina specialists dedicated to research, education and ethical patient care. He is a reviewer for numerous medical journals including Retina, Ophthalmology, and Expert Review of Ophthalmology, among others.

Dr. Sigler specializes in all aspects of retinal diseases including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, macular holes, epimacular membranes, and retinal tears and detachments. He offers no-stitch, minimally invasive vitrectomy for most retinal conditions requiring surgery. Dr. Sigler has a special interest in complex retinal detachment repair, including diabetic retinal detachment and proliferative vitreoretinopathy.

In his spare time, Dr. Sigler is an avid musician, and enjoys weight training and nutrition, as well as spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Sigler is an associate at Ophthalmic Consultants of Long Island, OCLI, an eye care group consisting of over 30 eye doctors and surgeons representing a broad spectrum of specialties in ophthalmology and optometry, with 11 locations throughout Long Island.
